Edward Oatley MBE

Edward was born in 1944. At 18 he joined Winchester House Prep School in Sevenoaks as a gap year student. He stayed on at the end of the year to continue his teacher training in house through IAPS (Incorporated Association of Prep Schools). In 1968, aged 24, he became Assistant Head, before becoming Headmaster of Sevenoaks Prep in 1977. He became a member of the IAPS in 1969 and the HTA (Head Teacher’s Association) in 1977.

Whilst at Sevenoaks Prep he acquired Foxbush School in Hildenborough and in 1985 reopened as Sackville School with 35 boys aged 13. Sackville is now a co-ed with 220 pupils aged 11 to 18.

Edward is chairman of the Sevenoaks sports council and is also chairman of governors at Steephill School in Fawkham Kent.

In the 2006 New Years Honours list he was awarded the MBE for ‘Services to Education and the Community in Kent’.
